ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. temp. Yazid I ibn Mu'awiya, AH 60-64 / AD 680-683. Fals (Bronze, 18 mm, 3.69 g, 7 h), Arab-Byzantine type, 'Pseudo-Damascus' mint. Imperial figure seated on throne facing, holding long cross in his right hand and globus cruciger in his left; in field to left, stylized bird on T-shaped porch; around, blundered legend. Rev. Large M in center; above, monogram; below, officina mark of inverted crescent and short horizontal line; around slightly blundered legend reading 'darb dimashq ja'iz' ('current issue [of] Dimashq' in Arabic). Cf. Goodwin&Gyselen p. 81, Fig. 18 (for similar reverses of other close imitations). Very fine.
